There is a lot of great information in this book that can prove useful for quite a few folks. Of course, the book steers wildly off course in some spots, particularly where the author rambles nonsensically about Communism, his distaste for non-representational art, and Jesus, and this may annoy some readers. I didn't particularly care about that because some of the information contained is practical and straightforward. I can skip the parts where the author sounds like he has a few coins short of a piggy bank and glean the good stuff regardless, and so can you.Product details

Mystery of Making It Reveals the Secrets of Marketing ArtHow Artist Senkarik Sold the First Piece in 1980 and has Exceeded $7 Million in Sales edition by Jack White Arts Photography eBooks Reviews
The book was interesting to read, and had some really good insights on selling art--really SELLING art--as opposed to "getting exposure", winning awards, or getting grants, which is what most artists are advised to do, even in professional development programs.I did find it very helpful. However, it had lots of "what to do" suggestions without the "how"', leaving me with some questions. He also contradicts himself occassionally.
Great for any artist who needs a psychological boost. It definitely dismisses quite a few myths and certainly makes the self taught artist feel much better about not having a degree in fine art. This book shows you how to be confident and how to get out there with your art.
Lots of great information in this book! I look forward to reading another. Jack White was a very talented man!
Such great information in this book. It was written a few years ago but is still very relevant. I've learned some very helpful common sense information about pursuing an art career! Jack White writes in easy to understand language. I highly recommend this book to anyone starting out in the fine art business!
The best of the 7 books on marketing art. Crammed with so much practical information it takes more than one read to absorb it all. And then I don't think you can absorb it all.
His experience is phenominal. I can hardly believe a person can have so much information in his head!! Buy this book Make it you Bible for making it doing your passion whatever that passion may be.
This is not the first book I have bought on the subject of art as a career, I have read several. I have also attended several seminars, and talks at expose, museums, career days at art school and art societies that I belong to. I had in fact “given up”. When people would ask my about selling my art I would respond, “No, I’m not into that. It’s for sales at shows I enter but hardly anyone ever sells anything at the shows. I’m just painting for my own enjoyment.”
Well no more. I am inspired to do what this book says and not do what it says not to. I have a clear vision forward. And a plan to proceed by. Reading this book you are instructed quite specifically what to do and how to do it.
One of the other reviewers gave this book a single star and then trashed it.
Jack White taught me how to sell art. Period.
I own virtually EVERY book on selling/marketing art that is currently in print. None of them is qualified to shine Jack's shoes.
He may not be the best writer, and you may not care for his art. Those things are beside the point.
Read his book and do what it says. It's that simple!
