The lives of two young women are mystically intertwined by a powerful talisman, a piece of meteorite, with the power to guide one of them in the peopling of a continent and the other in bridging the chasm of time that separates them. 185,000 years ago Evening Star leads a group of cave people across the icy tundra of what will one day be Siberia towards a new home shown to her in a vision. It lies far away beside a lake in a warm and fruitful country teeming with game, but the way will not be easy. Along their trek she must battle hostile lands, animals, and people.
The other life touched and changed by the meteorite is Ganny, a present day Native American archaeologist, who is convinced she has found evidence that her people came to the Americas thousands and thousands of years before an archaeological establishment steeped in racism is willing to believe. The powers that be decry the stone tools she is finding beside a California lake bed, for these objects, if recognized, would upset their whole system of beliefs. To win the acceptance of her discoveries she must battle prejudice, willful ignorance, and outright dishonesty.
Experience the paranormal as Ganny goes on spirit walks back through eons of time to a distant past peopled by early man. Join a tribe of Homo erectus who are led by their young shaman, Evening Star, as they wend their way across cold Asian tundra seeking a new warm land shown to their young leader. Become one with them. Do as one reader wrote the author “From the minute I began to read I knew I was hooked and all other things were forgotten each day until I had my dose of reading. I became part of the narrative. I trust you will not think I am a batty old woman but I must tell you I began to feel I was one of Evening Star’s tribe. I seemed to be taking each and every step of the journey with them, feeling their hope, fears, pains, and losses… It is the best book I have read in many years. What a wonderful read.”

multi-faceted characters and in-depth description of the
worlds they inhabit, we get to know each of them and their
many gifts.

present day and the Pleistocene Era, we learn of
their fight for survival. One literally for her own

take us from boardroom to bedroom, dank cave to sunny hillside.
Along the way we learn a lot about survival in an ancient
land, much harsher then the one we live in today. We come

mean that you won't be questioned every step of the way.
Together these women from two very different times garner
strength separately and then from one another with a final
gift that for once and all will make the world take notice.

The Evening and The Morning edition by Tom Baldwin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Tom Baldwin has shown himself a master of establishing and maintaining tension in The Morning and the Evening. I could not put the book down. Characters have depth and the scenes plausibility, enhanced by Native American mysticism with long reaching roots. He paints with words on a canvas you can see. Baldwin is a superb storyteller, comparing and contrasting a young woman from the Pleistocene of 185,000 BC with a young woman of today's Holocene, possibly related to the woman from far in the past. Each woman has a huge mission of sorts. Evening Star leads her People from Asia to the Americas while Ganny Eaglefeather leads a team to break through the Clovis Barrier. How they do this, what help they find along the way, and whether they succeed is the substance of this novel. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys prehistoric fiction.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The storyline was very creative plus lots of the book was informative. I did not want the book to end
This is the first one of Baldwin's books that I read and I enjoyed every page. The past and present and how they came together kept my interest all through the book. I did not want the book to end.
I could not put it down. I haven't loved a book so much in many years. I had all the characters pictured in my mind. The very concept of this story was just genius! I didn't want the story to end. I absolutely loved it!
It goes between the present and the distant past. The writing makes either era real, the cold tundra eons ago, the dusty desert of current day. Each time is populated with fully realized characters, a female shaman and an archaeologist, young women who must, in their own time and to their own peers, prove themselves. I highly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.
